In my first post, I wrote that I would write about all different kinds of diseases. In my second post I will write about a current disease called H1N1.
H1N1 flu virus is different from the seasonal flu. This disease can affect people who are young and healthy. The people that can have the worst effects are pregnant women and people with bad illnesses. This disease is known as the human swine influenza and it usually affect pigs.
Recently, the H1N1 disease was transferred to humans. The disease can affect the nose, throat and lungs. This disease can spread when a person who has the disease coughs or sneezes. The germs will enter the nose, eyes or throat of another person. The germs can also rest on hard surfaces like counters and doorknobs. This will transfer to another person if they touch their mouth or nose. You cannot get it by eating pork. The time between the infected person and the symptoms is between two and seven days.
The common symptoms for this disease are fatigue, muscle aches, sore throat, headache, decreased appetite and runny nose. Sometimes there may be vomiting, diarrhea and nausea.
If you don’t want to get the disease you should follow certain rules. Wash your hands often. You should keep common surfaces disinfected. Cough and sneeze in your arm, instead of your hand. If you are sick, stay home until your symptoms are gone and you feel well enough to participate in all activities. If you get flu like symptoms and are pregnant, you should contact your doctor.
